Facts on Bagels 

  • Bagels are the only bread that are boiled before baked.
  • Bagels come in many varieties from blueberry to the “everything” bagel, however, the most popular choice is plain, followed closely by sesame.
  • Bagels have been used to symbolize the continuous cycle of life—without beginning and without end.
  • That little hole in the center isn’t just for looks, it came in handy for early peddles and street vendors to thread multiple bagels onto a dowel, making transport.
  • The first bagel bakeries were founded in New York City in the 1920s.

Facts on Brownies

  • Brownie is a flat, baked square or bar. Its texture is somewhat between cake and cookie: can be fudgy, cakey, or hard.
  • Brownie came from a chef at Chicago’s Palmer House Hotel during the late 19th century.
  • The world’s largest brownie was made in 2001. It weighed in at 3,000 lbs. and was made with 750 lbs. of chocolate chips, 500 lbs. of butter, 850 lbs of sugar, 500 lbs. of flour and 3,500 eggs!
  • Although cannabis is the most controversial brownie mix-in, walnut remains the most popular and legal.
  • There are several days of the year named in honor of the brownie: January 22 is National Blonde Brownie Day, February 10 is National Cream Cheese Brownie Day, May 9 is National Butterscotch Brownie Day and December 8 is National Brownie Day.
