  • A bagel is a bread product, traditionally shaped by hand into the form of a ring from dough. The ring “hole” provides for more even cooking and baking of the dough.
  • Bagels are the only bread product that are first boiled for a short time in water and then baked.
  • Bagels have a dense, chewy, doughy interior with a browned and sometimes crisp exterior.
  • There are many bagel varieties available from blueberry to the “everything” bagel, the most popular choice is plain, followed closely by sesame.
  • U.S. per capita bagel consumption averages almost 4 pounds per year or 25 bagels per person.
