Cooper River Salmon season officially started May 16, 2014, when an Alaska Airlines flight brought in about 24,000 pounds of this prized fish. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game estimates this year’s harvest at 1.6 million Copper River sockeyes, 22,000 kings and 280,000 pinks.
