Cooper River Salmon Season is Open

What’s the fuss over Copper River Salmon? One taste of this firm red fish, with its rich & nutty flavor and you will understand why food lovers relish the four or so weeks of the year that this fish is available fresh for the year.

Cooper River Salmon season officially started May 16, 2014, when an Alaska Airlines flight brought in about 24,000 pounds of this prized fish. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game estimates this year’s harvest at 1.6 million Copper River sockeyes, 22,000 kings and 280,000 pinks.

You may want to take this opportunity to make a trip to your local fishmongers for one last piece of this season’s Cooper River.

If you miss out, there is always next year!
